Subject GRE

Subject GRE exams are offered in the following 8 subjects: Psychology, Literature in English, Biology, Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science.


Registration

Register for the Subject GRE through ETS (Educational Testing Service). If you miss the registration deadline, you may still report to the testing location on the test date and try to get a seat as a "stand-by."

Register By Mail: Registration forms are available inside GRE test bulletins. Forms cannot be downloaded. Bulletins are available at the Testing Services office, 1880 SW 6th, UCB Suite 310, M - F, 9am - 5pm. Enter on Hall or Harrison, take the elevator to the third floor, and follow the signs to PSU Testing Services.

Most questions about the GRE should be directed to the Educational Testing Service (ETS) at:1-800-257-5123 or 1-609-771-7670 (EST).

Your admission ticket, sent to you by ETS, has information you will need for the test day, ie, where to report, what to bring/not to bring, etc.

While Testing Services administers the Subject GRE, The exam is usually given at another location on campus. See your admission ticket for the testing location.


Subject GRE "Stand-by" Registration Procedure

If you miss the registration deadline, you may still report to the testing location on the test date and try to get a seat as a "stand-by." Registration is not guaranteed for stand-bys.

  • Report to the Test Center at least 1/2 hour early. Call ETS for the official reporting time and test location: 1-800-257-5123.

  • Have your registration form completely filled out and fees ready to be collected. (Registration forms can be found inside GRE bulletins. Forms cannot be downloaded or mailed. Pick up a bulletin from Testing Services.)

  • Sign in on the official Stand-by Sign-in Sheet posted by testing staff.

  • Wait for testing staff to determine whether they have test materials and an extra seat for you.

  • If you are admitted, the testing staff will collect your registration form and fees. Testing staff cannot answer specific registration questions or verify the amount paid. You must deal directly with ETS: Educational Testing Services regarding registration, scoring, and score reporting.

General GRE

The General GRE is NOT offered at PSU. 

In Portland, it is only offered through Sylvan Learning Centers' Thompson Prometric Testing Centers.
