Miller Analogies Test - MATThe MAT is required for entry into many graduate programs. It is a computer-based, high-level mental ability test requiring the solution of problems stated as analogies. Fee The fee for the Miller Analogies Test at PSU is $80 (due at the time of testing). Registration To take the MAT at PSU, call Testing Services at: 503-725-5301. Testing staff will take your name and phone number and reserve a seat for you on a specified test date. Allow 1 hour and 30 minutes (approx.) for the appointment. Candidates requesting special accommodations will need to submit the following to our testing center: A completed Accommodations Request Form, a signed HIPPA statement, A current letter (not more than 3 years old) from a licensed professional with training that is applicable to diagnosing the disability. Allow 1 month to review the paperwork. Appointments are Monday Through Thursday at 9am, 11am, 1pm or 3pm . No walk-ins. Test Location PSU Testing Services: 527 SW Hall Street, University Center Building, Suite 310. The cross streets are Harrison and Hall. Enter the building on Harrison or Hall. What is NOT Allowed Eating, drinking, and using a cell phone or any testing aids is NOT allowed in the testing room. Using a cell phone is not allowed at all during the testing session. Scores You will see a preliminary score on the computer screen after the test. Your test is sent electronically to the Psychological Corporation (the company in charge of the MAT). The Psychological Corporation scores all exams, keeps records, and sends out score reports. You will receive your official score report, and so will the schools you designate, in 10-15 business days after the test date. Test Content The Miller Analogies Test consists of 120 partial analogies that are to be completed in 60 minutes. An example of an MAT analogy is as follows: Plane : Air :: Boat : ________(a. submarine, b. fish, c. water, d. pilot) The analogy is to be read as follows: "Plane is to air as boat is to_______." The answer is c. water. (Download the MAT Candidate Information Booklet from http://www.MillerAnalogies.com/ and look at page 21 for more information.) Fluency in the English language, a broad knowledge of literature, philosophy, history, science, mathematics, and fine arts, AND the ability to reason out relationships may contribute to performance on the MAT. There is no foreign-language edition. No one is permitted to use a dictionary or any other reference aid when taking the MAT. Test Preparation & Links While preparing for the MAT is usually advised, Testing Services does not recommend any particular way to prepare. Here are some options: Go to http://MillerAnalogies.com/ and download the Candidate Information Booklet. Familiarize yourself with analogies and the many different forms they can take. Also, practice completing analogies quickly, as you are only given 60 minutes to complete 120 analogies during the test.
